I am grateful to a reader who has emailed me about plans to improve the present rail links with Heathrow from the Waterloo to Windsor and Eton Riverside Station line. The prime proposal involves the construction of new track between Staines Station and Heathrow Terminal 5, the line running up the side of the M25. Every so often I catch the BBC's Bells on Sunday at around 5.45am on a Sunday morning. These broadcasts are always impressive, a full peal of bells is a stirring sound, but it was a particularly poignant recording today. The announcer gives a short introduction about the peal at Worcester which is certainly something special and that in this recording a number of the bells are muffled. I've just had an unsolicited visit (despite the notice on my door) from Southern Electric, purporting to say that he was authorised by my existing supplier to state that I was paying more for electricity than I needed to and he could offer me a saving. I sent him packing. The company was warned about this practise some time ago. but seems to be at it again.

I worry about some vulnerable old folk known to me.

The Royal Borough has 13,000 daffodil bulbs in stock and is calling on volunteers of all ages to help plant them in four Fields of Hope around the borough - and then enjoy the fabulous golden displays next spring.

I'm confuzzled re the Daniel expansion.

I thought the redevelopment would result in a complete run from the existing store to the plot where the work is currently in hand. However the artist's impression on the board outside appears to show Gap as surviving, slap bang in the middle. Will it continue to exist as a separate entity? Perhaps someone with access to the planning submission could clarify.

The Home Office website (National Crime Map) reports this month (Oct 2009) as follows:

The average number of crimes in this area has increased from 1195 to 1237 (3.5%)
(compared to the same three month period last year)

I obviously got that wrong. I thought we are regularly being told how the crime rate was falling. Now who would have told me that, I wonder?

Litter Pickup On the Brocas

Today there was a volunteer community clean up at the Brocas headed by Councillor Liam Maxwell. Despite it being a cool and gray gloomy morning, It was very well attended. Litter pickup sticks and rubbish bags were provided. Within an hour the majority of trash was cleaned up and the Brocas was looking lovely again.

Recently, passing through the area, heard a young Mum, interrupted in chatting with a friend, effing and blinding at her child (approx five years old).

This a.m. leaving the carpark after visiting the Church of St Tesco, two sub-teenage lads on a bike, one being on the crossbar. They were going east on Dedworth Road then suddenly veered into Tesco (no signal, of course). The car leaving in front of me naturally gave them a honk, at which he received a string of abuse.

Earlier this year the walkway from Ward Royal to the King Edward Court shopping area was closed to the public. As a result the South Path just alongside Ward Royal has increased considerably in foot traffic. In this short period of time there has been a huge increase in garbage and graffiti along the path. The RBWx have applied to themselves for planning permission to build a 'play pirate ship' at Dedworth Memorial Recreation Ground. The need for planning permission results from the height of the masts, two at 6m and one at 8m which, if I wanted them in my garden, would not be permitted.
