The River Thames at Old Windsor lock has been almost completely blocked since early this morning by a fallen tree. It is impossible for boat owners to navigate through by themselves.

A rare sight this, not one but two commercial canal boats tethered in tandem proceeding under Windsor Bridge downstream towards Romney Lock.

The cost of these repairs, 1.8 million at first estimate, has to be borne by someone. Who knows the FINAL cost?

The scheme is said to have protected some 500 houses built on the flood plain in Maidenhead. The lives of several thousand people and their properties downstream were not so fortunate.
