Here in Athlone Square, Ward Royal, is a little known plaque commemorating the site of the shed where Sir Sydney, as a teenager, built his first full size aeroplane. The plaque is located just below the first floor window, in the north-west corner of Ward Royal.

Everyone seemingly is aware that between them, the Hurricane and Spitfire were instrumental in saving the UK from invasion in 1940. It follows therefore that their respective designers, Sir Sydney Camm and Reginald ('R J') Mitchell should be remembered in their home towns.
