Great then and now photos of the terrace.
Jim Slaughter asked if I could post the above photo of his parents(Eva and Jack),at a wedding in 1953outside the Dedworth Social Club.The club was behind what is now St Marks Church.I forgot to ask what was there before.

Thankyou thamesweb for posting the old b&w photo of your's truly, taken at the back of Ch.Terrace. Can I apologise here and say that I'm quite certain now, that my Aunt's friend, who's holding me, was called 'Ivy' and not 'Rosie' as I incorrectly told you - sorry about that, but I seem to have met so many Ivy's and Rosie's in my life that sometimes the wrong name is attached to the wrong face. Or vice-versa.

Avon Edward, I can remember those two tunes you mention....but I didn't, til now, know the name of the lady who sung 'Far away places...', thankyou for educating me, lovely song and I'm now thinking of Lake Tahoe and Incline Village, when I ought to be concentrating on Dedworth Memories for the forum.....'Happy Feet' too is an ongoing classic which makes everyone want to tap their feet and maybe dance too. I have to draw your attention to one of the more serious regulations (I think it came from the EU) where twaddle, gabble, piffle, drivel, babble, prattle, offal, and trifle (unless liberally laced with sherry and I have the largest portion) is not permitted on this forum.

Hello Pat. Jim Slaughter used to live in Roses Lane,He said that it was called Dead Womans Lane,due to a murder commited there.He said that he was told by his Father that it was possibly a teacher who was assaulted and killed,before the 2nd World War.As far as He knows the case was never solved.I am sure there must be records of this somewhere.It looks like I'm off on a verbal inquisition of my senior friends again.I have posted a photo of the Wolf on St Georges,maybe you have photos...

No. We have not driven through Dedworth, but I expect to thanks to this thread from thamesweb. Margaret Whiting would sing in the 1940s, "Those far away places, with strange sounding names, are calling, calling me." So, I looked at a Google Satellite photo view to try to satisfy the chance to see and experience your Dedworth. It looks like a well-placed, green setting. But I wish one of the estate companies would select a well - chosen, panorama view of Dedworth...

Yes I did realise it was Lin and not you,how could I think that of you?

The Dell still exists and is further up the hill between Wolf Lane and Hemwood Road.

When I next see Lin I will explain about my friend and where Hang Man's Woods are.

Dead Woman's Lane...If it is not Roses Lane,then I am stumped again.I can not remember any lanes to the west of Smiths lane before the 60s,or was it later?Again I will have to have a chinwag with Lin....

I've spoken to Lin and it's definitely 'Dead Woman's Lane', it was down Smith's Lane, on the left-hand-side...'Roses Lane', she says, is still there, and she thinks the place you're thinking of Bob, is in the Dedworth Forest, where the Dell used to be......and, I think you'll have to re-read my posting to 'vikingnick' again, as it wasn't me who did aerobics then drank a glass of wine, it was Lin....you three make a good team, exercise then...

Hi Pat, I'll see what I can do about a photo of the terrace for you. By the way I worked with John Snashall for a few years. We were delivery drivers for a company on the Fairacres estate in the 90's and I also knew his two boys at school . A thoroughly nice bloke, I still see him around Dedworth occasionally.

I had a quick look and filled in my details about the Coronation Book and am hoping they'll give me a good price and tell me where I can buy a copy in England.
