Windsor Great Park has now been reopened following restrictions imposed during the Foot and Mouth outbreak. The following posts are retained here by way of record.
A sad sight. The magnificent Long Walk usually enjoyed by
hundreds of visitors on a beautiful day like this, deserted,
except for the deer up by the Copper Horse.
As a precaution, Windsor Great Park was closed to visitors as a result of the nearby FMD outbreak near Egham.
The Long Walk was closed south of Straight Road (to Old Windsor) as were other gateways into the park.
Runnymede, and the pathway across to the memorials, was also closed off though the low fence is easily stepped over, (which I do not recommend...)
The restrictions meant that:
> The National Carriage Driving event was cancelled
> The Guards Polo Club cancelled their events
> Disinfectant pads installed at vehicle entrances into the park
> The deer park was closed
> Suspension of all horse riding permits
> All dogs to be kept on their leads
> Warning signs positioned.
The Crown Estate webpage about the closures is here .
