Charles has had a tough time throughout his life, never having the freedom in his youth to 'date' girls as any normal teenager would. On those occasions when he did meet someone he was fond of, I bet there were 101 reasons why he 'couldn't, shouldn't or didn't' always having to consider a myriad of other aspects before proceeding with a relationship, not least what the public, press and religious supremos thought. In these circumstances it is no surprise that his marriage to Diana was less than ideal.

I recall that years back his name was linked with Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg [b. 1954]. Regardless of whether the two of them enjoyed each others company, the fact that she was a Catholic meant that a serious relationship was out of the question! This is just one example of external influences conspiring to screw up his love-life. There are plenty more.

And before anyone jumps up and down to say that he could have ignored such aspects - today, possibly, yes - but back then it was impossible, just as it was impossible for Edward VIII to marry the woman he loved, divorcee Wallace Simpson, and so he abdicated in 1936 to marry her, becoming The Duke of Windsor in the process. Indeed the fact that Charles is now heir to the throne is a direct result of Edward VIII abdication, for it meant that Charles' grandfather, George VI, came to the throne, very reluctantly it must be said, but whose reign was hugely successful, thanks to the impressive support and influence of his loving Queen Consort, Elizabeth, later to be known as Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, Charles' grandmother.

I am confident that Charles will remember both his grandmother and his mother's devotion to their 'duty' to the UK and Commonwealth and whilst this might seem an out-moded concept and more Victorian than of the new millennium, it remains true that members of the Royal Family take their responsibilities very seriously, a dedication born of the Queen Mother's influence.

I have no doubt that Charles will continue his substantial and very successful projects such as the Princes' Trust to name but one. He is often unfairly maligned despite the great efforts that he makes in connection with a wide variety of charities. I have no doubt that Camilla as his Queen Consort will be keen to support him in every way in continuing the Queen Mother's tradition, as well as selecting and supporting her own charities as much as she is permitted so to do by the 'powers that be.'

I hope the public and the press will support them in their many and varied projects and remember that this job is for life. The royal family cannot retire, unlike the rest of us...

The poor guy just wants to get married in a civil ceremony and is being stuffed around because of British law on where he may marry. It's about time the laws on marriage were overhauled so the British people - and the royal family - can marry in any venue they desire. Here in Australia we can marry anywhere in a civil ceremony - on a beach, in someone's back garden, at the top of a mountain, scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef and even in a hot air balloon! The possibilities are endless. The British people are missing out on being able to do this - all because of the law. Perhaps Charles should bring Camilla and marry over here during his tour - he'd run into none of the venue problems he's had in England!

Congratulations to Prince Charles

Has everyone forgot that the queen got on the throne through abdication? How come in this day and age that our queen as she stands now is allowed to change the rules to suit her own family? Now Charles has married Camilla she should not be allowed to be queen of our country just as Wallace Simpson was not allowed to be in the past.Charles would not be heir to the throne if Edward had the same standards as him and just disregarded the divorce rule.
