I'm sure The Mayor of Bexley will back up your story!!!! I take it that you were a fireman after leaving the service, that's IF the photo is of you as a guardsman.......!!!

I've been trying to sus out which regiment you were in - my husband is an ex-Irish Guardsman, although he was born in Windsor, and he can tell which Guards you were in from the number of buttons and their sequence on the tunic. Blowed if I can...........My late Father-in-law was in the Irish Guards too, he was a CSM., a really lovely man. He was stationed in Victoria Barracks, as was my Grandfather, Josia Elliott, was an ex-Coldstream bandsman, so you see we all have connections with the guards.......I would hazard a guess that most of Windsor's population have 'come down' from guardsmen.......we were just sitting here trying to think of any friends, from when we lived there, who's fathers weren't in the guards......?

Back to your photos, can you please tell me how I can 'save' the photos you sent to The Forum. I would like to save them to my photos folder, I've sat here trying to think of a way and now I've run out of ideas - we're off to get fish and chips, so I don't have time. Thanks for any tips you can give.

Thanks Exred.......My grandson says 'it's easy', so, when he can spare me 5 minutes of his time, he's coming round to show me what to do.....don't hold your breath!

Thanks, exred, my husband was right in that he looked at your tunic on the little pic. and said 'I bet he was in the Scots Guards' - takes one to know one.......he was 'in' long before you though and chose to serve in his Dad's old regiment, the Irish Guards, for three years, rather than get put into some other 'mob', (his words), during the conscription days. I remember when we were walking round near the river on a Sunday, as most 'courting couples' did in those days, and he said 'Oh ......, here comes my old Sergeant Major', and he said, 'his name's 'Dinger' Bell, well Sgt.Major Bell'........we talked for a while and 'Dinger' asked my husband 'how's your Dad then?'.........it turned out that my late father-in-law, was HIS Sgt. Major when he first joined up. So as my husband just said, 'my Dad chased Dinger Bell, then Dinger Bell chased me'.....it went full-circle.....All I can recall about him was that he was HUGE, and being only 5'1", it's something that sticks in my memory. My husband reckons, too, that 'Sgt. Major Brittain, the one who became very popular in comedy films etc. was a piece of cake compared to a few sgt.majors that 'trained' him......mmmm....I'll have a go at saving your pics. and let you know how I get on......IF it goes pear-shaped, you'll be able to hear me from where you are!!!.......I sent thamesweb two great photos that my sister-in-law took in Windsor of H.M. The Queen and H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, when they opened the new home for elderly Windsorians, (on the Dedworth Road), and the new shopping precinct.....I wasn't too confident that I'd be successful, but, I sent them by e-mail, and, well, you can see the results of that for yourself, as he put them straight on the Forum..... by-the-way, a friend of your's, 'Mayor of Bexley', has left me in a quandary, having posed the question which you can read on this page......My husband thinks it's someone who lived in Albert St. when they were very young, then moved into Bexley Street, later joining the Fire Brigade....I'm looking forward to his reply - so watch this space......as per usual, my husband will be right - well, it goes without saying!!!!!!

Do you know, or did you know, 'June, Joey and Tony' Larkin?? June and my husband, Tony, think you once lived in Albert St, then moved to Bexley St......that's if you are who they think you are!

Well, if my husband is right, he says you lived in Albert Street first, then moved to Bexley Street. So he says 'hi' and how are you?? We have 2 daughters, one of them has a boy and a girl, the boy is at college and the girl at university, so we're grandparents.........Tony's sister, June, has three grownup children and three grownup grandchildren. Joe/Joey has three grownup children and is a Grandpa to three boys. Tony remembers your Uncle Bill who lived next door to the Etheringtons, and always made the kids laugh, they all liked him very much. He remembers too your two brothers, Ted and Doug. Sadly, Tony's Parents died. His Dad, who was, as you said, a tall, upright R.S.M. in the Irish Guards, died many years ago while still living at number 16. His Mother, Ivy, died two years ago at the age of 96, in 'Warden's Lodge' along the Dedworth Road. (since then it's been flattened and re-built and opened recently by The Queen). Ken and June Wells came to the funeral at St. Edward's Church and the wake after at The Liberal Club, opposite Victoria Barracks. It was really good to see them both after such a long time. We had quite a chat and exchanged phone numbers. We all talked about the 'old days' in Albert Street. Joe's ex-wife and I chatted about our younger days in Dedworth. She and I grew up together and still see one another when we come up to Windsor! We hope to drive up later in the year and maybe we could buy you a pint?
