The RBWM Visitor Management Forum meeting last night featured a presentation from Jane Lee of First Group, the new train franchisee for the next seven years, starting in August 2017. They will be responsible for rail services between Waterloo throughout the south and south-west of London as far as the channel coast. That includes services to Windsor & Eton Riverside to Waterloo.
Apparently they know nothing about the Windsor Link Railway scheme. It does seem absolutely incredible that the new franchisee is unaware of WLR, or if they are, have dismissed it as an irrelevance long ago. Thinking about it, I suspect that someone involved in the franchise application process must have come across reference to it but, as I say, had reason to believe it was of no consequence.
Amongst other things First Group intend to double the number of trains running between Riverside and Waterloo, extend evening timetables and increasing capacity by about 30% at peak times. Improved rolling stock, amongst other things, is scheduled and consultations will start as soon as they take over and implemented in the December 2018 timetables.
Given that one of the WLR’s main claims is just such an increase in services to London, one wonders why Windsor needs a tunnel through its heart to achieve. Personally I remain convinced that such a tunnel is intended to benefit 'out of towners' so that they can speed through Windsor to their destinations. As far as train services for Windsorians are concerned, we have a choice, and choice, as we are often told, is a benefit to be cherished.
And we all know that the real reason behind WLR is to facilitate a massive increase in costly (profitable) billionaire mansions from Romney Lock to the relief road.
No! No! No!

...with a general election just completed, we need to focus more strongly on the change that this country needs.
