"But Mr Dent, the plans have been available in the local planning office for the last nine months."
"Oh yes, well as soon as I heard I went straight round to see them, yesterday afternoon. You hadn't exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them, had you? I mean, like actually telling anybody or anything."
"But the plans were on display ..."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
"That's the display department."
"With a flashlight."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'."

Both ourselves and First Berkshire were informed of the arrangements at Clewer Hill mid-afternoon on Thursday 29th August and this was the first either of us had heard about any such plans. This of course gave us very little time to get adequate information out to either drivers or customers. We were unable to get any definitive information from anyone at the Council such as “Would buses be allowed to pass”.I spent the whole of Friday morning preparing information for drivers and passengers. By early afternoon, we had placed notices on board our buses, issued maps and diversion packs to all drivers working on Saturday, and put up notices at affected bus stops. We took the decision to operate via Hatch Lane so as not to miss too much of Clewer Hill, though late Friday afternoon we were advised that Windsor-bound buses would be allowed access to St Leonards Road. This allowed us to run normal route towards Windsor. However, our return journey had a different route before 1500hrs (Springfield Road, Imperial Road, Hatch Lane) and after 1500hrs (Goslar Way, Hatch Lane) so we didn’t get caught up in the traffic ourselves. We resisted the request from RBWM to operate all the way to Legoland, return in the heavy traffic, and make an impossible left turn at Clewer Hill. Clearly this meant that the stops from (and including) King Edward Hospital to Prince Albert, including the whole of Springfield, were unable to be served on journeys towards Maidenhead. We only run services into Windsor on Monday to Saturday, so we were not affected on Sunday. We have had a number of phone calls and emails, and I have asked those to contact the Council with their concerns directly.Courtney Buses
I was advised that buses would be allowed through to St Leonards Road late on Friday afternoon, and advised our drivers to do the same. It would appear that some officials may not have been fully aware of the arrangements. I understand my counterpart at First was very angry at the late notice, and suspect the driver of the 702 would have been instructed to sit for as long as it took to be allowed through!

"We have to be seen to be doing something. It's our last chance this year!"
"But we aren't ready! We haven't told anyone what we are planning!"
"It doesn't matter. Just do it, otherwise we will be criticised all winter!"

Maybe a local councillor could build a railway to Legoland, with a park and ride...
