The Thames Valley Alert System has sent out this warning:
It is close season for coarse fishing so fishing is illegal. Might even be poaching!
Anyone seeing people fishing should report it to the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60
Last year the E.A checked over 80,000 licences and prosecuted over 2,700 licence cheats. They also prosecuted 138 people for poaching offences. Between them, they were ordered to pay fines of over £335,000.
The maximum fine for fishing without a licence is £2,500. The maximum fine for poaching is £50,000.
Anyone over 12 must have a licence. A licence is cheaper than a fine.
The 'close season' starts on 15th March & ends on 16th June.
