Welcome to the RWWS local history map resource lists!
These new lists are designed to provide RWWS readers with a central location from which they are able to see at a glance some known locations of maps which cover the local area, dating from the early 17th Century, right up to the present day. Many of the maps listed are in private ownership, whilst others are in the public domain, and are available to be viewed either in person or online at given locations.
To kickstart this project, I have attached a list of my own map resources (collected principally in connection with my Windsor Forest & Great Park studies) which hopefully may be of use and interest. The paper copies are in my personal possession, as are the book-included and computer-accessible ones, and I am happy to provide information/sample images from these sources to those who need them for their own studies. My list of internet-available resources are there for anybody who cares to look for them - I'm just trying to help save time!
The key to the efficiency and success of this small project is that I am hoping that others, like myself, will be agreeable not only to listing their own resources, but will participate in actively making their resources available to interested parties, or at least be amenable to replying to questions sent to them on subjects which relate to their resource material. It's a bit like having a wonderful and comprehensive collection of paintings locked away in your home - nobody benefits from the works of the artists except the owner of the collection, and that can be a great loss to many individuals who are looking for that elusive piece of an historical' jigsaw', or a resource which could provide the proof for or against a long-standing query. The Internet has helped greatly in this regard, bringing as it does innumerable works of art - and maps! - into the public domain.
To assist the RWWS Editor, I have volunteered to manage entries to this thread. Therefore, please contact me via yuku PM if you have any queries relating to any items in the list which I myself, or others have submitted, and I will do my best to respond positively. If anybody else has items or resources they wish to add to the list - even internet links of newly-discovered maps or relevant websites - then, again, please get in touch with me via Yuku PM, and I will get them listed for you. Once your list is posted, no personal data will be passed to enquirers by myself - all enquiries must be sent via Yuku PM directly to the RWWS Forumite who has provided the list/information. Provision of data to third parties, or answers to queries will be entirely at the discretion of the RWWS Forumite concerned.
For those who wish to comment on this project, please post your views or questions on the 'Old Maps' thread which can be found in the Windsor History, Old Photos and Genealogy section.
A final note - the laws and rules of Copyright will apply, and be applied, to all sources of material which I (and hopefully others) have made available through this List.
So, now all that remains is for you, dear Reader, is to get your list prepared and get it posted on here!
... and happy map reading!

OLD WINDSOR PARISH COUNCIL
Following the 'A Walk through Time' exhibition of 18/19 October 2014, the following maps of the village of Old Windsor and Ham Island have now been placed in the OWPC's archive, which is located at The Hub Centre, St Lukes Road, Old Windsor, where, upon request, they may be consulted. Please note, copies will not be available (these maps are all subject to various copyright restrictions), but for the local/Old Windsor historian, this is an important source of mapping information, and all available in a single location.

THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES
Access the website using the link above, then type in 'Windsor map' into the 'search our records' option from the drop-down menu (top RH corner).
You will receive a large filelist of about 515 files, all of which have a Citable Reference, which you will need to have should you wish to view the contents of the file(s) in person at TNA.
It is possible to download and save the list for future reference and study. I would suggest you save it as an html file, which re-opens in a table format, and which is also printable.
If you have problems saving it, send me a yuku pm with your personal email address and I will email the filelist to you. (not sure if it will attach to a yuku PM). I can also post it if you do not wish to give out a personal email address.
IMPORTANT - Please check the rules regarding visits to TNA, especially the need (or not) to apply for a Reader's Ticket - you may need to register for one. Using the method above, it is also advisable to print out your selections before you go to TNA, as they may request details of the documents you wish to see.

BERKSHIRE RECORDS OFFICE
A list of c.311 catalogue references, sourced using 'Windsor map' as the keyword search. Each reference offers single or multiple information resources, and/or maps relating to Windsor. These documents will need to be viewed in person - as far as I can see, they are currently not available to view online, with the exception of the 1817 Enclosure Awards (see above for link).
