I hear there is going to be an ice rink in the Alexandra Gardens through December, is this true?
If it is, it will be a great idea as long as it is done properly .
Just like "Central Park.
Well done some body, i hope it works!

It has been mentioned in the local papers. Sounds good to me too. If I get a moment I will try and find out more and put it on the RWWS site.
Shame I can't skate! Edited for Google visitors: This is Windsor; The Queen's Castle link. |

nice to see you supporting skating in windsor by the looks of it.
shame you cant do the same for the proper permanent skatepark in windsor. no doubt when the ice rink is there though you will have something to moan about it. www.royalwindsoricerink.com/ |

Well I thought this was a great idea at first.Shame it seems to be aimed at ripping off tourists rather than providing an amenity we can all enjoy.
Check out the web site- 9.50 for 1 hours skating! I imagine we will be able to enjoy similarly extortionate prices at the ice rink cafe. Locals save your money for Slough Ice Arena, less than half the price and the session times are twice as long (ok skate hire not included but still cheap at 1.80) |

Linus won't be moaning about 9.50 an hour... he doesn't moan about anybody or anything, except those he thinks are moaning of course...
Linus, you should learn to complain about things that deserve to be complained about, otherwise you will be taken for a ride on lots of occasions. But know your facts first, don't guess. |

Just taken a look at the skating web site. Ha! Can't even get the name of the location right. Currently it reads 'Alexandra Park, Windsor.'
I agree that 28 for a family of four to have one hour on the ice is excessive. There must be some overheads of course, and I doubt that our astute Borough will let them have the facility for free, but I still think the charges are far too high. |

no i wont be moaning about 9.50 a hour as i wont be using it. i dont ice skate...
yes its designed as a tourist trap. so are you saying the skate park is an area to be moaned about? i skate there about 4 -5 times a week and the accusations about noise are unfounded considering there is a dual carrageway right next to it. i hve also stood at a great distance from the skatepark to see what this so called chinese water torture noise is and i cannot hear anything out of the ordinary or disturbing. and this was when the park was very very busy. and i dont guess my facts i know that everytime the skate park has been brought up on these forums people have complained about it |

Re: Christmas Ice Rink - Borough Press Release
|
8th September 2005
Windsor residents and visitors alike will be skating on festive ice this Christmas as part of Alexandra Gardens is transformed into a giant outdoor ice rink for the holiday period. The newest star in the town's line-up of seasonal attractions is an 800-square metre outdoor real ice rink to be sited at the riverside park for six weeks from the end of November until the first week of January. Provided by London-based PWR Events working in partnership with the Royal Borough, the real-ice rink - measuring 25m by 32m - will cater for 240 skaters each hour with ten one-hour skating sessions every day from 10am to 10pm. Its debut in Windsor this Christmas follows the success of similar ice skating rinks set up in previous winters at Hampton Court Palace, Kew Gardens and the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich. Each of the rinks comes complete with an integral caf in Windsor's case the Thames Caf which will serve hot drinks and festive snacks for skaters after their sessions or for spectators to watch the action on the ice. There will be no entrance fee for the caf. Cllr Richard Fagence, lead member for leisure and cultural services, said: "What a wonderful, unique asset this will be to Windsor in the run-up to Christmas and into the New Year. "An ice rink will really add to the traditionally festive feel of the town and help to generate a real sense of community and seasonal goodwill among local residents and visitors alike. I cannot think of a better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by wrapping up warm and taking to the ice so come on everyone, give it a go at Windsor's very own winter wonderland!" Cllr David Eglise, chairman of Windsor and Eton Town Partnership Board, said: "The attraction of an ice rink will undoubtedly bring in visitors to the town over the Christmas period, which will in turn boost trade among local shopkeepers and businesses. "But just as important, it will bring a great deal of enjoyment to the community, particularly for families and children who come into town to spend their leisure time together. I am sure this exciting new activity will be an unqualified success." Paul Roach, Windsor and Eton town manager, said: "The Royal Windsor Ice Rink will be a fitting centrepiece to Windsor and Eton's Christmas programme this year. "One of the highlights of the programme will be a spectacular Victorian-themed ceremony to switch on the Christmas lights with a children's lantern procession and live reindeer parade with live entertainment through the Christmas season." The innovative winter wonderland will open to the public every day except Christmas Day from Saturday November 26 until Sunday January 8. There will be ten one-hour skating sessions every day between 10am and 10pm, with short periods between certain sessions for ice cleaning. Sessions will be: 10 11am, 11am 12midday, 12.15 1.15pm, 1.30-2.30pm, 2.45 3.45pm, 4 5pm, 5.15 6.15pm, 6.30 7.30pm, 7.45 8.45pm and 9 10pm. Ticket prices (to include skate hire) are 9.50 per adult, 7 for children under 16 and 8 for concessions. A family ticket two adults and two children or one adult and three children will cost 28. There will be a 25% discount for Royal Borough Advantage Card holders from Monday to Friday on the first and last weeks (Monday November 28 to Friday December 2 inclusive and Monday January 2 to Friday January 6 inclusive.) There is no entrance charge for the Thames Caf, which will be open for skaters and spectators alike. |

WHY do they need a cafe, there is one in the Coach Park, at Dodgy Dons, at the Fair Ground, at Barry's, there's a Snack Wagon in the Industrial Estate and a couple of cafe's on the Slipway also a restaurant at Browns and under the arches a few more, Sooooo....where's this extra business its bringing to the riverside if they are going to gobble it up themselves?.
Where about in the Gardens is it going to be? |

I notice they are applying for an alcohol License for the Ice Rink!
So its a Ice Rink, a Cafe and now a Bar. I wonder if all the other permanent business's in the area get such an easy ride when it comes to change of use? What next, we could do with a toilet in the park or a Sainsbury's, i would like a Golf Driving range |

![]() ![]() ![]() Here are some pictures taken at sunset on 19th November. The skating rink is located immediately to the west of Edward VIIs Coronation Tree in the centre of the gardens. There is a large covered restaurant and bar area beyond, hence the need for the alcohol licence. |

Re: Christmas Ice Rink Back in December 2006
![]() The highly popular Ice Rink will be back in Windsor at Alexandra Gardens from Saturday 2nd December 2006 until Sunday 7th January 2007. They say booking in advance is recommended. There are discounts and two periods of 'all-day' skating for just 7.50 pp. Details here on the Windsor Ice Rink Website |
|||
PartyPooper3 |
Real cost 10.50 per adult
|
There is also a booking fee of 1 per ticket, which makes this 10.50 per adult. I can't see anything on their website about 'all-day skating' for 7.50, can the last user please tell us where they read this? There is a concession tickets (8 + 1 booking), but is there a discount for RBWM Advantage Card holders?

Apparently the skating rink will not be set up in Alexandra Gardens this year.
Doesn't bother me 'cos I can't skate, but I guess there are lots of youngsters who do enjoy it - and get them away from their blessed computer screens! |
