Walks along The Jubilee River |

Thamesweb is often asked about The Jubilee River and we are planning a story illustrating some of the walks to be enjoyed along the banks of the JR.
Have you any comments or pictures to add? They would be welcome. |

We have received the following email from a visitor to the Jubilee River in June 2006:
_______________ We had an excellent time yesterday: we took bikes, but mine blew a tyre before Id unloaded it, so we walked instead. Wed previously walked from Slough Weir up to Wood Lane footbridge, so this time we parked at Lake End Road and walked up to Marsh Lane weir and back. After lunch we walked downstream and around the ecology area to the hides below Manor Farm bridge. We found the hides a bit ineffective (low down for good viewing, and nearby waterbirds flew away as we entered the hide!) but we still saw lots of excellent wildlife: reed bunting, sedge warbler, green woodpecker, common tern, lesser black-backed gull, tufted duck, little grebe, great crested grebe, and huge flocks of baby starlings in the care of a sort of starling-nurse. Plus, of course, plenty of mute swan, mallard, Canada geese with goslings, coot, moorhen, pied wagtail, blackbird, sparrow etc. The riverside path was smooth and well-kept, and very popular with cyclists and runners, as well as several other birdwatchers. We were impressed at the diversity of habitats created, and the numbers of wildlife colonizing, breeding and taking advantage of the scheme all seemed like a roaring success! ____________________ There is more on the RWWS about the Jubilee River here: www.thamesweb.co.uk/flood...index.html |
