Claude Watham Obituary 14th June 2009 - North West Evening Mail -

We have just heard belatedly of the death of Claude Watham. He was a well known film and TV director and perhaps his best known works were Swallows and Amazons from 1974 and Cider with Rosie from 1971.
The connection with Windsor is that back in the 1940s, when the paintings were removed from the walls of the Waterloo Chamber during the war, a very young Claude Watham (aged about 16) designed and painted pantomime characters in the spaces left. This coincided with a Christmas pantomime that Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret put on to entertain local children and staff. I understand that these paintings were retained behind the original paintings when they were returned to their proper positions after the war.
