Nothing whatsoever to do with Windsor, but what the hell!
When it is possible to identify the very moment when a true star is born it is worth reporting. In this instance the moment was 7.50pm on Saturday 3rd May 2008 when Jessie Buckley sang 'The Man That Got Away' in the BBC TV programme 'I'd Do Anything'. "The Man that Got Away" was written for the 1954 version of the movie... wait for it!... A Star Is Born with Judy Garland.
Now, I am not normally a 'popular' music person. Radio 1 and 2 are unknown territories to me. My favourite tipple is some Shostakovich or some Rostropovich (the late, great..) but I have enjoyed the BBC TV series. That enjoyment turned to enthralment as I watched and listened to Jessie the other day. I have since watched her performance a good number of times and remain totally bowled over. Just watch and marvel as she moves elegantly and eloquently through the song until she arrives at "There is nothing!" which is delivered so explosively it literally turned heads.
That is the moment. That is the moment when 'A Star is Born'. Wow!!!
There are two websites where you can watch Jessie if you missed her performance, one of which expires on Saturday when it is replaced by the next programme, the other will be 'permanent', but you won't get the panel's comments, which are well worth listening to. [Edit: Apparently they feature on You Tube after the next singer, Ashley, sings her song.]
1 So until Saturday only Saturday's programme, fast forward to about 43:25 mins if you just want the Jessie intro, 45:40 for her song and then the panel's (remarkable) comments which follow Ashley's performance.
2'Permanently' available You Tube clip, in both regular and high definition is here: Jessie -The Man that Got Away But there are no panel comments, instead the public have contributed there own, some informed, some less so!
Enjoy... several times, as I have!
