Wasn't there a Register Office in Sheet Street or near there? If so, when did it close and why? Where are births registered now?

Various addresses for Register Office | ||
|
Back in the 40s the Registrar was at 4 Park Street, in the same building as Lovegrove and Durant, solicitors. By the 80s the office was in St Leonards Road,
next door to the former library, it having moved through Victoria Street and Kings Road - probably other addresses too! The St Leonards Road office was
recently demolished in the relocation and rebuilding of East Berks College.
Now the offices are in York House, the Windsor branch of the RBWM in Sheet Street, opposite the entrance to Victoria Barracks. |

Death certificate | ||

Thankyou. I now remember going to these offices for two reasons, one being that we couldn't park anywhere, the other was that there was re-building or
painting going on at the time and we had to dodge the workers. We went there to obtain my late Mother-in-Law's Death Certificate. The Registrar was a young
lady who signed, copied and handed over the certificate. We chatted about having been born in Windsor, and how it had changed so much. I then asked her if
she'd had anything to do with the recent marriage of Prince Charles at the Guildhall, and she surprised us by saying that she had....she was an Assistant
Registrar at the wedding. This cheered us up on an otherwise sad occasion.
