I have written on the piece about Windsor where there's an old photo of the Coldstream Guards' Band in 1905. have I put this on the 'right'
part of the forum?....I've asked thamesweb if there's a chance to compare the 1905 photo with the recent one of the band, in the same place. thankyou.

The band marching from Victoria Barracks on 26th April 2008 
The band in the same spot almost 100 years ago So what has changed? Pretty much everything really. The barracks on the right and the Liberal Club in the distance were redeveloped some years ago. About all that is left are the Almshouses, out of shot, set back from the road behind the hedge. The pathway on the left remains, leading to 'Chariot's Place'. |

On further inspection I see that the Almshouses, at this end of the hedge are just visible in the recent colour view. They are recognisable by the different
coloured, banded, brickwork which was characteristic of Victorian building. I am told it was inspired by the new museums in South Kensington and the interest
in all things botanical, scientific and geological.

Two similar pictures taken many years apart - thankyou thamesweb....The Alms houses are, as I've written in another contribution, where my late
Mother-in-law lived for eleven years. They are now modern flats for 'mature' people who have lived in Windsor for most of their lives - well, that was
one of the conditions when Ivy applied for residence there. Each flat has kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and sitting room. There is a laundrette on site. The
gardens are beautiful and some residents take pride in tending them. There are, too, benches for the residents to relax on. All a far cry from the days when
the 'older' photo of the Coldstream Guards' Band was taken.
